Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative’s Economic Development Fund (EDF) played a major role in supporting the new
Sheyenne Valley Veterinary Services clinic in Milnor, North Dakota.
Via a seven-year, 1-percent interest loan, Dakota Valley’s EDF allowed the cooperative to spur economic growth at the same time it helped the clinic, located right across the road from Dakota Valley’s Milnor office, with purchases of equipment.
Clinic owners Leon and Kathy Pfingsten applied for and received an EDF loan for $150,000.
“We were able to purchase a wireless computer system, the dog kennels and other equipment with the loan,” Dr. Kathy Pfingsten says.
In addition to the low-interest funding, the clinic qualified for cooperative and state efficiency rebates with its two (one four-ton and one two-ton) air-source heat pumps. The rebates – $500 for each heat pump – added up to a $1,000 rebate from Dakota Valley. In addition, the Pfingstens qualified for a rebate through the State Utility rebate program. Their six-ton air-source heat pump qualified for $2,400 (six tons at $400 per ton).
